Ed Sosnowski Return to All Inductees
Ed was born on July 16, 1952 in Chatham’s St. Joseph’s hospital to the proud parents Chester and Nora Sosnowski. He and his sister spent their growing years in Chatham’s west end and attended Winston Churchill elementary school for grades 1 to 6 before finishing 7 and 8 at Queen Mary. He then made the move to CKSS to complete his high school courses in 1972.
Upon graduation Ed took a big step in life and instead of a post secondary route he decided to enlist with arm forces and within the year was stationed at Baden-Baden, Germany. He had a love for working with motors and was placed with the 3rd Mechanized Airborne Regiment for his stay there.
After his tour was up he returned to Chatham where he was employed by Guspro Inc. which was called Sunnen Products then. During his 35 years of employment there Ed stayed connected with the armed forces as a member of 1RCR’s and the Essex and Kent Scottish for over 18 years. He was also an associate member of the Chatham’s Ansell Armories Sgt’s mess, a member of the E & K Scottish Regimental Association in Windsor and has been a member of Chatham’s Legion Branch 628 for 34 years.
With son, Darrell, and daughter, Danielle, entering their sporting years Ed was a willing volunteer both as a coach in hockey for 19 years, soccer for 3 years and refereed for over 20 years as well as serving on the CMHA executive as Referee Liaison. His refereeing expertise garnered him a position as a Director for the Kent Hockey Referee Association for 10 plus years.
During his early years with his involvement with the Polish Canadian Club and sport organizations Ed became friends with Reg Pepper who encouraged him to use his organizational skills to help him with scoring and timing at the Maroon games. So, in 1985, began a 24 year commitment to the Maroons, their players and fans and he still loves going to those home games to work and watch the kids play.
Married to Jackie for 35 years Ed now spends his leisure time with her and supporting their three grandchildren Paige, Liam and Mya in their many sports and activities. They are regular parishioners of Our Lady Victory and the Blessed Sacrament Churches. And, if there is a few spare moments along the way he can utilize his mechanical skills on the old Dodge Dart he has been working on since 1973.
