Ron Urquhard Return to All Inductees
Ron
Urquhard was born in Chatham October 7th 1939. He has been married for 45 years
to Dianne. They have two sons, Todd and Kevin, their wives Lisa and Michelle,
three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
After 30 years of service Ron retired from the Chatham Fire Department. He was also employed by Arbours Ambulance and owned and operated Ridge Raceway from 1984 - 1995.
Ron was involved in hockey for 26 ½ years. During that tenure he was a timekeeper, scorer and lineup person in the penalty box for many years with the Jr. Maroons. He feels that it was a privilege to have worked with many great coaches and staff, such as George Aitken.
At a young age Ron started out as a stick boy for the Sr. Maroons. He also played Minor Hockey and later transferred up to Juvenile. For many years he helped Helen and Chuck Carson with the Maroons Booster Club. When Roy and Hank Bruhlman owned the Jr. Maroons he persuaded them to buy a travel bus for the team, which he maintained and drove for a few years. Ron received the Chatham Minor Hockey Association Life Time Pass.
Hockey wasn’t his only passion. Other sports Ron was involved with were:
· Chatham Broomball League - President and Player, Chatham Mavericks Lacrosse - Board of Directors, Tuesday Nite Hockey (Recreational) - started by Ron and Bill Saunders, Maple City Slow Pitch - founder in 1972, the biggest league in Chatham and still going strong,
As a Fire Fighter Ron supported Muscular Dystrophy for 17 years by putting on yearly dances. Other hobbies he enjoys are stock car racing and playing a winning game of cards.
