Bill Carnie                                                                               Return to All Inductees

Bill was born in Chatham in 1955, and grew up in Morpeth, attending Ridgetown District High School.  It was during his childhood years that his love for hockey developed, as his entire family were avid fans of the East Kent Rural Hockey League.  Bill got his start in minor hockey administration at the age of 20, when he was asked to step in mid-season to coach a Midget-Juvenile house league team.  Over the next 5 years Bill coached and convened house league, was a board member for both Minor Hockey and the Groundhog Tournament and was VP of Travel for one season.

Bill moved to Chatham in 1981 where he applied for a house league coaching position in Chatham Minor Hockey.  He was asked to fill the role of Manager for the AAA Midget team, and that led to 25 years in Chatham Minor Hockey as a travel team manager, house league convener, board member and Friendship Tournament director/chair.  He also spent time as the Manager of the Blenheim Blades Jr. C team (1986-87) and the Wallaceburg Lakers Jr. C squad (1995-96).

Bill’s involvement with Chatham Maroons began when he was approached by a friend in 1984 to assist with the on-air commentary for live broadcasts of the home games on Chatham Cable.  In 1987 Bill was approached by Reg Pepper to join the Penalty Box crew as a scorer and time keeper, and has been a constant member of the crew since.  Bill has also been involved in the Chatham Maroon Alumni, serving on the board for the past 8 years.

Outside of hockey Bill has been involved with Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers and coaching fastball and slo-pitch teams.  He also loves to golf whenever his schedule permits.

Bill has been employed by Union Gas for 30 years, has been married to Cindy for 12 years and is a proud father and grandfather of Sonya, Jared, Jordan and Maia.
