James Arthur Jones Return to All Inductees
Jim Jones was born in Chatham, Ontario on May 3, 1921 and lived his whole life in the Maple City until his passing in June of 1968.
In 1942 he married Helen Haggarty and shortly after that joined the armed forces and served in Europe during the Second World War. After his return from the war, he and Helen would have two children - Margaret and Andy.
Jim initially worked at Hillman’s Grocery store in Chatham and then moved on to Loblaws before working many years at International Harvester before he passed away.
Jim’s past times were fishing, bowling and most of all being involved in hockey in some capacity. He spent many hours following his son Andy to his hockey and baseball games.
Jim’s other love was to follow the Junior Maroons and became the team trainer in the early 1960’s, joining the likes of Dr. Don Patterson and coach Copper Leyte on the team. He was always there for the players and spent many hours looking after their sticks, skates and cuts. Over the years he worked with many talented athletes but had developed some favorites, a few of which were Benny Green, Tom Waddick, Eddie Wright, Dennis Babcock, Dickie Smith, John Henry and Herbie Wakabyashi .
Jim also has five grand children - Cheryl, Christine, Dawn Ann, Caley and Ryan. It is also interesting to note that Jim’s wife Helen was also inducted into the same Maroon Wall of Fame in 2003. They were truly one family that were dedicated to the Junior Maroon “Family” and the players joined the Jones as their new and adopted sons.
