Shirley English                                                                         Return to All Inductees

Shirley was born in Chatham in 1950 and after finishing school started to work for the Bank of Montreal.  During her thirty-two years of service with the bank she was a mainstay for their principal charity, The Fountain of Hope as well as a willing volunteer for many other fund-raisers for the community.

Shirley was always a Maroon fan and would later marry Steve English who starred for both the Junior and Senior Maroons.  She would begin her connection with the Maroon organization in the early 1990’s when she became a booster club member with the then named Chatham Mic Mac’s.  For four years she would also billet out of town players for the Junior hockey team and helped them to adjust to their new home in Chatham.   As the organization grew so did her responsibilities and she became even more involved with fundraising and spent endless hours promoting the club through community and public relation projects.  She became a strong administrative aide to the Torrie family when they acquired the Maroons in the late 1990’s.

Always present at every home game, Shirley became a familiar face to the fans as they entered the arena and she shared her warmth and enthusiasm with all.  Her son Jeff and husband Steve are proud of Shirley for all her contributions to making the Maroons a first class organization and her induction into the Hall of Fame.
