Roy Baldwick Return to All Inductees
Clifford and Evelyn Baldwick’s son Roy was born in 1938 and after graduating from the Chatham Vocational School, Roy would hold several jobs in the city. His home was a few short blocks from Memorial Arena and his love for the Maroons would grow and become a huge part of his life and a second family.
Starting from the time he worked with the Senior Maroons in 1958-59 and then joining the Junior Maroons in 1964-65 he has been a loyal and ardent supporter of Maroon hockey. While working in the dressing room and on the bench he endeared himself to the players and coaches. He always took the time to know the players parents and welcome them to the arena and city. He was a blessing for the coaches and the trainers of the team with his abundant energy and always “Rosie” personality and attitude. At every home and away game he took care of all kinds of responsibilities so that others could do their jobs.
One of his favorite highlights was the eighth game in 1973 that Chatham beat Guelph for the SOHL Junior “A” championship. Suffering from back problems he listened to Rod Charles’s play by play on the radio then joined Harold MacFarlane and Helen Jones for the victory party with the players.
Roy is always grateful for the people he has met and friends he has made by being associated with the Maroons. But in reality the real winners are those who have had the pleasure to know this true Maroon Super-Fan and one quality individual.
